No. The vignette (road-use fee) is paid only for vehicles not registered in the Republic of Moldova. LilRent cars have Moldovan plates, so you do not buy a vignette. You only need one if you drive into Moldova in your own foreign-registered car.
Who pays the vignette
Under the Fiscal Code (art. 344-345), the vignette is paid by owners of vehicles not registered in Moldova when they enter or transit the country. Moldovan-registered cars do not need it.
What it costs if you bring your own car
| Period | Passenger car (up to 8 seats) |
|---|---|
| 7 days | 4 € |
| 15 days | 8 € |
| 30 days | 16 € |
| 90 days | 45 € |
| 180 days | 85 € |
Official rates are set in euros and paid in lei. You buy the vignette on evinieta.gov.md, through internet banking, at payment terminals or at bank branches. Some reseller websites charge more than the official rate.
The fine for no vignette
For foreign-registered cars without a vignette, the Contravention Code (art. 287³) sets a fine of 2,250-9,000 lei. Paying the fine does not replace the vignette.
